JAKARTA - A former employee of an online gambling site in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, with the initials J (22) has reported the company to the North Jakarta Police since April 16. The police report received by journalists in North Jakarta on Thursday contained the numbers LP/B/289/TV/2022/SPKT/POLRES METRO JAKUT/POLDA METRO JAYA.
The complainant said that the police report was made because of the alleged abuse case he experienced while still an employee of the company.
The gambling company is suspected of committing human rights violations by holding J for three days around April 2022, when he had only worked for about a year. In addition, he was also suspected of committing violence such as hitting him, whipping him with a hose, and setting him on fire with cigarettes.
The treatment was received by J for taking money belonging to the company worth Rp. 13 million and sending money from the players who won bets on the online gambling site to a personal account.
J said that he used the company's Rp13 million rupiah, without his superior knowing it, to meet the needs of his family, including the needs of his only child.
However, his actions were discovered by the company on April 12, 2022, when J had just arrived at the office, his superiors called, who wanted to ask about the money issue.
"Indeed, initially I was called by my superiors to be taken to the meeting room to be questioned," said J, quoting Antara, Thursday, August 11.
However, because he had not confessed, J was taken to an empty room that was the former COVID-19 isolation area. In the empty room, J continued to dodge until it was suspected that he made an employee of an online gambling company who participated in the interrogation feel emotional.
J allegedly received violence in the room by being beaten until he confessed to his superiors that the Rp13 million had been used for personal gain. Even after confessing, J still gets violence from employees at the office.
"I was paraded again with the employees there. I was paraded to the shophouse complex in a condition where I didn't wear clothes, just panties. Then I hung the words, 'I took around Rp13 million in money,'" said J.
After being paraded, the company allegedly kept J for three days in an empty office room by locking it from the outside and the company confiscated his cell phone.
The alleged confinement was discovered by J's wife because she worked in the same shophouse area as the victim and saw firsthand when J was paraded around.
After that, J's wife went home and told her family what had happened to the victim. The family went to J's office to negotiate for J's release.
J was finally released after his family gave the gambling company a guarantee of IDR 5 million and a motorcycle BPKB.
J, who did not accept his office's treatment, finally reported it to the authorities.
J said that he had done the post-mortem, with the results of bruises on his back, thighs and face.
"I had injuries on my back, bruises on my thighs, and I have psychological problems and my trauma from that day until now. I had fever, headache, dizziness, couldn't sleep," he said.
