JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party DPP Irfan Yusuf Hasyim said the Gerindra National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas), scheduled for Friday and Saturday this week, would listen to recommendations from the DPD regarding the party's presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

"The agenda of Rapimnas is to respond to the current political situation and get input from regional party leaders and party wings," said Irfan Yusuf, quoted from Antara, Jakarta, Thursday, August 11.

He explained that each DPD of the Gerindra Party will convey their respective votes regarding the presidential candidate that will be carried by the party. Gerindra Party DPP chairman Prabowo Subianto, he continued, then responded to the opinion of the DPD.

"The decision is left to Pak Prabowo regarding his readiness (to run in the 202 presidential election)," he added.

Irfan said that Prabowo had actually received a mandate from the 2020 Gerindra Party Congress to decide the political direction of the Gerindra Party in the 2024 presidential election. However, according to him, Prabowo wanted to hear directly the opinions of party cadres in the regions as a form of democracy within the Gerindra Party.

"The Gerindra Congress two years ago handed over a mandate to the General Chair to decide (the political direction in the 2024 presidential election). However, Pak Prabowo wants to be more democratic; so he wants to hear opinions from the regions," he said.

In the Rapimnas of the Gerindra Party, he said, it is possible that the names of the vice presidential candidates (cawapres) will be proposed by the Gerindra Party DPD.

Initially, the Gerindra Party's Rapimnas was scheduled for Saturday, August 30. However, the schedule was postponed to Saturday this week at ICC Sentul, Bogor, West Java. In the Rapimnas, Prabowo Subianto will convey his stance on whether to run as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
