Deputy Director of the Directorate of Drug Investigation at the South Sumatra Police AKBP Djoko Lestari said that the evidence of marijuana belonging to the suspect named Sapria alias Ria (40), a resident of Palembang City, was destroyed by burning with fuel oil.
The destruction of the dried marijuana was carried out openly in the yard of the South Sumatra Police Headquarters.
The destruction was carried out together with other confiscated drug evidence, namely 1,856 kilograms of methamphetamine.
"The evidence was obtained from 14 suspects who were arrested in the last two months, one of them was Ria, who had 18.5 kilograms of dried marijuana," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 10.

Djoko explained that the suspect Ria was arrested by his personnel when he got off at the ALS AKAP bus counter in the Soekarno-Hatta Street area, Palembang in early July 2022.
"Officers found a package of dried marijuana wrapped in light brown insulation from a black bag brought by the suspect Ria," he said.
Prior to the arrest, the personnel had received information that it was suspected that there was cross-land drug smuggling so that surveillance was tightened in the area.

Meanwhile, the suspect Ria, who was presented for the extermination, admitted that she had absolutely no idea that the package she was carrying in her bag contained marijuana.

“I was entrusted with the bag along with Rp700 thousand for pocket money from my friend, it contained palm sugar. I only found out that it contained marijuana after the police checked the bag that was stored in the trunk of the bus,” he said.
