Police Uncover Online Prostitution Cases In Makassar

MAKASSAR - The South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Regional Police team has again uncovered allegations of child prostitution using an online system to peddle victims to philanderers.

"The suspect with the initials UK who sold or procured underage women was placed in Hotel B and Hotel D. There are two places," said Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Police, Kombes Komang Suartana, in Makassar as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 10.

The alleged case of child prostitution, he said, was revealed by the South Sulawesi Police Retana Sub-Directorate Team through an online site, after receiving a public report.

"We continue to anticipate the practice of online prostitution in the South Sulawesi region. In this case, there are three victims with the initials S, Z and S. All women are underage," he said.

The tariff for online prostitution is Rp. 600 thousand to Rp. 1 million. In addition, perpetrators and victims also often move from place to place.

"All the victims from here (Makassar) sell or make transactions online. It can be in one place or the victim can be taken out. The suspect admits that he has done this practice many times," said Komang.

Meanwhile, the modus operandi of the perpetrators is still being investigated. The suspect was arrested on August 9 after the team learned of the whereabouts of the perpetrator.

"If the mode is still being investigated, how long does it take for the victim to do it in this content. And how long the operation will take, we will tell you later. For customers from the middle, middle and lower classes. It depends on the price," he continued.

The suspect is subject to Article 78 and Article 88 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection.
