53 Residents Of Mukomuko Bengkulu Bitten By Rabies Contagious Animals

MUKOMUKO - The Health Office of Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu, recorded 53 residents in this area who were bitten by rabies-transmitting animals, types of cats, monkeys, and dogs, during January to July 2022.

"A total of 53 residents who have been bitten by the rabies-transmitting animal are scattered in a number of areas in this area," said the Rabies Program Manager of the Mukomuko District Health Office, Bara Lendra, as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 5.

He said this was based on the results of the recapitulation of data from residents who were victims of bites from rabies-transmitting animals from January to April 2022.

Of the 53 residents who were bitten by the rabies-transmitting animal, 33 were bitten by dogs, 16 were bitten by cats, and four were bitten by monkeys.

Then of the 53 cases of animal bites that transmit rabies this year, there were two cases in January, six cases in February, eight cases in March, five cases in April, seven cases in May, 15 cases in June, and 10 cases in July.

He said that the majority of residents who were bitten by the rabies-transmitting animal had been given anti-rabies vaccine (VAR), only three residents were not given VAR because based on monitoring the animal that bit it did not die for 14 days.

In addition, he said, the animal that bit the resident since the last year had been given a vaccine to prevent rabies.

"Three residents were not given VAR because based on observations the animal that bit the resident did not have rabies and the animal had only been vaccinated for a year by the owner," he said.

He ensured that the majority of the animals that had bitten the residents in this area did not have rabies, all of them were pets.

Residents who are bitten by a rabies-transmitting animal receive VAR for free, but they must complete the requirements in the form of a certificate from the village head known to the sub-district head and a referral letter from the local puskesmas.
