JAYAPURA - The condition of the people in two villages in the Kuyawage District, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua is gradually recovering due to experiencing extreme weather.

Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kama said that in general the situation in Lanny Jaya is still in a safe and conducive condition.

Efforts to deal with natural disasters of frost/hail are still being carried out by the central government, Papua province and the local government of Lanny Jaya Regency.

"It was reported that the phenomenon of frost has begun to enter the phase of reducing the intensity, so the community feels the same symptoms as what happened in 2015," said Kombes Kamal, Friday, August 5.

Kombes Kamal explained that the current condition of the community is starting to return to normal.

"However, the community still needs food/staple food assistance so that the economy (from farming) can recover," he said.

Meanwhile, the steps that have been taken by the Lanny Jaya Regional Government and supported by the Lany Jaya Police are to send initial assistance quickly.

"Aid in the form of 8.9 tons of rice and medicines as well as medical personnel have been sent to overcome and anticipate the occurrence of food shortages and health problems in communities in disaster-affected areas," continued Kombes Kamal.

Currently, people still need food and clean water and medicines (vitamins) for endurance to anticipate the decline in stamina after the disaster.

"Clean water is needed, especially for consumption (drinking) considering that there has been an advisor from the Lanny Jaya District Health Office. Especially for water to be consumed, it must be cooked/boiled first, so that the water consumed by residents is protected from bacteria from liquid ice clots after the disaster," said Kombes Kamal.

Currently, an emergency response post located at Tiom Lanny Jaya Airport has received assistance that will enter and is ready to be distributed to disaster-affected communities.

"The Lanny Jaya Regency Government and TNI/Polri officials are currently coordinating and monitoring any developments from the affected locations," said Kombes Kamal.
