DIY - Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), has been operating. Getting closer to prospective passengers, Immigration will open operations in that area.

Head of the Immigration Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Yogyakarta Muhammad Yani Firdaus said the immigration would be under the auspices of the Immigration Office Class I Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) Yogyakarta.

"Technical and historical matters regarding the need to establish an Immigration Office in Kulon Progo, one of which is because Kulon Progo Regency is very strategically located in the crossing of people, especially now there is YIA Airport," said Yani in Kulon Progo, quoted from Antara, Friday, August 5.

He continued, there are several options for the location of the Immigration Office. PT Angkasa Pura I offered an office in the airport area, then during an audience with the acting regent it was offered near the Hajj embarkation at Kokap, and a third option at another location.

"We expect support from the Kulon Progo DPRD for the construction of this Immigration Office," he said.

The chairman of the Kulon Progo Regency DPRD, Akhid Nuryati, expressed his appreciation and support for the presence of the Immigration Office in Kulon Progo Regency because without a YIA airport, the people of Kulon Progo really need the Immigration Office.

He said one of the reasons is that the distance from Kulon Progo to Kanim Yogyakarta is quite far even though the Kulon Progo Public Service Mall (MPP) already has passport services, but the potential for future immigration matters will increase.

The DPRD of Kulon Progo Regency will administratively assist the construction of the Immigration Office in Kulon Progo Regency by writing a letter which will be sent to the Directorate General of Immigration and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to be forwarded to the Minister of Law and Human Rights.

“The potential need for immigration services in Kulon Progo Regency is quite large in the future. Therefore, we appreciate and support the presence of the Immigration Office in Kulon Progo Regency," he said.

Chairman of Commission IV DPRD Kulon Progo Muhtarom Asrori welcomed the plan to build the Immigration Office.

YIA Airport which serves international flights will automatically increase the number of tourists visiting DIY. "We hope that with the Immigration Office in Kulon Progo there will be many tourists visiting Kulon Progo," he said.
