No Longer A Lawyer For Mardani Maming, Denny Indrayana: Agreed To Only Accompany The Pretrial Only

JAKARTA - Former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Denny Indrayana, spoke about himself being no longer the legal representative of the former Regent of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, Mardani H. Maming. Denny and former Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Bambang Widjojanto, only accompanied the pretrial.

Mardani Maming filed a pretrial at the South Jakarta District Court (PN) some time ago when he was named a suspect by the KPK.

"Me and Mas BW (Bambang Widjojanto) have agreed from the start to assist until the pretrial stage," Denny told reporters in a written statement, Wednesday, August 3.

After the official pretrial hearing, Denny Indrayana and Bambang were no longer dealing with Mardani's legal issues. However, he still hopes that his former client will get justice.

Moreover, Mardani Maming is considered a victim of criminalization. "We pray that this case will proceed well and bring justice to Mr. Mardani Maming," he said.

"As long as there is evidence in the pretrial, we still believe this is a criminalization of business transactions. This is competition and business takeover by utilizing legal instruments," continued Denny.

Previously, a lawyer named Abdul Qodir admitted that he is now Mardani's attorney. He said that they were sent by the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) and the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) to provide legal assistance.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Mardani a suspect in the alleged bribery and gratification of a mining business permit in Tanah Bumbu Regency. He was named the suspect as the recipient, while the giver, Hendry Soetio, who was the controller of PT Prolindo Cipta Nusantara (PCN) had died.

Even though he died, the KPK confirmed that investigators had received evidence related to Mardani's acceptance. He is believed to have earned money from Hendry from 2014 to 2020.

Meanwhile, the amount of money that Mardani received through his trusted people and his company reached Rp104.3 billion.
