Deputy Chairperson Of KPK: People Want Us To Arrest Only People, If They Are Not Judged, They Don't Work

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) says the public prefers to see them arresting the perpetrators of corruption. If there are no arrests, the anti-corruption commission is considered not working.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairman of the KPK, Alexander Marwata. According to him, the agency is only considered working if it catches the perpetrators of corruption.

"We know that the people are so upset and tired, tired of seeing the corrupt behavior of state officials, they want the KPK to arrest people," Alexander said as quoted from the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Wednesday, August 3.

"So when the KPK did not arrest people for a long time, the people judged that the KPK was not working," he continued.

Alexander agrees with this condition, which makes the level of public trust in his institution often fluctuate. He said, when the public did not see the arrests made by the KPK, the level of trust from the survey results immediately dropped.

"But if you finish OTT on officials then the survey goes up, right away, the fact is that," said Alexander.

However, this condition should not continue to occur. This is because the KPK is not only tasked with arresting perpetrators of corruption, but also taking preventive measures.

For this reason, the KPK, when led by Firli Bahuri, made the Deputy for Education and Community Services. "Because we realize that it is impossible to eradicate corruption only by taking action," he said.

"It will not solve the problem. We want to go through integrity education, starting from schools to universities, including classes," concluded Alexander.
