BANJARMASIN - The management of Bank Kalsel officially reported the alleged skimming crime to the South Kalimantan Police after a number of its customers reported losing balances on their debit cards.

"We will immediately follow up on the report from Bank Kalsel today to conduct an investigation," said Head of Sub-Directorate V of Cyber Intelligence, Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation at the South Kalimantan Police, Commissioner Ricky B Sialagan in Banjarmasin, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 2.

According to him, it is not yet certain whether the sudden disappearance of the balances of a number of customers in banks belonging to the South Kalimantan Provincial Government on Monday (1/8) was due to skimming or other forms of crime.

Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an in-depth investigation first to ensure that the actual criminal case occurred in order to make the case clear.

However, if it is true that skimming crimes have occurred against customers, Ricky explained that there are several articles that can be applied.

Among them are article 30 paragraph (1), (2), (3) in conjunction with article 46 paragraph (1), (2), (3) and or article 31 in conjunction with article 47 and or article 32 paragraph (1), (2) in conjunction with article 48 paragraph (1), (2) of Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).

In addition, alternative articles 362 and or 363 of the Criminal Code can also be imposed.

"If proven in court, the perpetrator could be given a maximum sentence of 8 years in prison and a fine of up to IDR 3 billion," said Ricky on behalf of the Director of the Special Criminal Investigation at the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Suhasto.

It is known that a number of Bank Kalsel customers reported that their savings balances had suddenly decreased. They then busy checking their savings balances either through ATMs or visiting the nearest Bank Kalsel branch office.

The President Director of Bank Kalsel Hanawijaya ensured that he had taken anticipatory steps to stop the alleged skimming practice that befell a number of customers.

"We take full responsibility and return 100 percent of the customer's reduced balance," he explained.

Skimming is the act of stealing credit or debit card information by illegally copying the information contained on the magnetic stripe of a credit or debit card at an ATM machine.
