The Fugitive Surya Darmadi Corruption Case Is Known In Singapore, The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Is Optimistic That The Person Concerned Will Be Dragged To The Country

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened an opportunity to extradite the owner of PT Duta Palma Group, Surya Darmadi. The fugitive is thought to be in Singapore.

"Regarding the extradition, we will definitely investigate the person concerned, for example, right there. We have an extradition agreement," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata to reporters in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 2.

The KPK will first analyze Surya's citizenship status before taking this effort. Not only that, Alexander said that his party will coordinate with the Corrupt Practice Investigation Bureau (CPIB), which is an institution to eradicate corruption in Singapore.

Although many steps will be taken, Alexander believes Surya can be brought to Indonesia later. This is because there is cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore regarding extradition.

"And what crimes committed in Indonesia have the same legal sanctions in Singapore, yes, those are the conditions for such an extradition treaty," he said.

The Attorney General's Office previously named two suspects in the alleged corruption case of the seizure of 37,095 hectares of land by PT Duta Palma Group in Riau. Meanwhile, Surya Darmadi is the owner of the company.

Meanwhile at the KPK, Surya Darmadi has been named a suspect since 2019. This determination was made after investigators developed a case against former Riau Governor Annas Maamun.
