JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said the super priority destination (DSP) Likupang, North Sulawesi is suitable to be developed with the concept of ecotourism.

Menparekraf Sandiaga after attending the Messa Xperience at The Pulisan, North Minahasa Regency, said that the Likupang area is an area crossed by the Wallace line.

The Wallace Line is a line that stretches from the Sulawesi Sea to the Nusa Tenggara Islands Cluster and separates the fauna species between the islands of Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

"Likupang has the best biodiversity in the world because it is crossed by the Wallace stretch. Earlier we saw the extraordinary animals and vegetation," said Sandiaga in an official statement from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sunday, July 31.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is committed to further increasing the tourism potential in Likupang through policies that are right on target, on the right benefits, and on time.

"We are building policies that we are already working on improving, we are not correcting and adjusting them to what are priorities, and together with the district and provincial governments we will make sure that by 2024 everything is completed," he said.

Sandiaga also shared his experience in participating in Messa Xperience activities which included trekking in the hills around Pulisan Beach and swimming at Pulisan Beach and planting tree seeds. According to him, the Likupang area has a very beautiful and world-class landscape.

"It turns out that if we create several tourism products related to ecotourism (in Likupang), it looks like we are on a world-class level," said Sandiaga.

On the same occasion, Deputy for Tourism Products and Event Organizers (Events) Kemenparekraf / Baparekraf Rizki Handayani added that Likupang was considered suitable to be a high-end special interest tourism point.

"So it has always been known as marine tourism, but now we are adding eco marine destinations. So we will create several special interest tourist points here," said Rizki.
