The Tourism Office Promotes Medan Specialty Culinary, Bobby Nasution Messages This To MSME Actors

MEDAN - The Medan City Tourism Office, North Sumatra, intensifies culinary promotions for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) typical of Medan to boost the economy amidst the sloping COVID-19 situation.

"Every Saturday night (Friday night, ed) we hold creative celebrations in two sub-districts at once in turns," said Head of the Medan City Tourism Office, Agus Suriyono, as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 25.

In addition, he continued, every Saturday night or Sunday night his party held a creative veranda in the yard of the Medan Mayor's office to empower local culinary MSME actors.

It is known that the creative homepage which implements strict health protocols began to be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, and creative celebrations in two sub-districts on Friday, June 24, 2022, after the status of Medan City PPKM level 1.

"The two events empower SMEs in the creative economy sector, including culinary as one of the sub-sectors of the creative economy in the city of Medan," he said.

Agus said that the 2022 Medan culinary festival, The Kitchen of Asia, which was held last week, was a series of the 432nd anniversary of Medan City.

The culinary festival typical of Medan and Asia was held for five days from 19-24 July 2022, making the enthusiasm of residents to visit this event quite high with financial transactions reaching more than Rp. 605.77 million.

The culinary event on Jalan Masjid Raya Al Mashun Medan was attended by 78 booths and six "food trucks" consisting of "western" stands, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Arabia, and the archipelago 37 booths.

"Yes. It's a culinary festival that is routine once a year and its implementation is in the series of Medan City Anniversary," explained Agus.

The Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, hopes that this culinary festival can educate SMEs in the culinary field to keep their wares hygienic and suitable for consumption for consumers.
