JAKARTA - Kendari Class II Prison, Southeast Sulawesi, foiled a plan to smuggle a package of shabu-shabu narcotics into the prison carried out by two inmates (prisoners).

Plt. Head of Kendari Class IIA Prison I Gede Artayasa said an attempt to smuggle 32 packages of crystal methamphetamine was thwarted by prison officials on Saturday, July 23 at around 13.40 WITA.

"It is true that methamphetamine was smuggled by inmates who were found in his right pants pocket," said I Gede, Sunday, July 24, quoted from Antara.

The failure began when two inmates with the initials S and MI were being assisted at the counter or registration post for goods deposit services for visitors.

When given an assignment at the counter, S met a woman. Seeing the incident, the visiting service officer suspected him. Together with the Main Door Security (P2U) personnel, the officers then searched S.'s clothes.

"From the search results on S's clothes, two packages were found containing 25 small packages weighing 15.68 grams and seven small packages suspected of having methamphetamine weighing 5.7 grams," he explained.

He emphasized that there were no Kendari Class IIA Prison employees involved in the smuggling of methamphetamine. His party then coordinated with the Southeast Sulawesi BNNP regarding evidence and deepening of the two inmates.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Correctional Division of the Kemenkumham Sultra Muslim said that his party was committed to eradicating illicit drug trafficking in the prison environment.

"This is a success and a shared commitment to eradicate narcotics trafficking and I would like to thank Kendari prison officers who have integrity as correctional officers," said Muslim.

The evidence, which is suspected of having methamphetamine, has now been handed over to the Southeast Sulawesi BNNP.
