JAKARTA - Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi) Edi Hasibuan believes that the National Police Headquarters will soon announce the suspect in the death of Nopryansyah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J in the near future.

"Without the intention of preempting investigators, soon there will be a suspect in this shooting case," he said in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 22.

Edi said that there had been major developments in the handling of this case so that the case had entered the investigation stage.

"Hopefully the police investigators will announce who the suspect is soon," said the lecturer at Bhayangkara University, Jakarta.

In the investigation stage, he said, the police actually already have sufficient evidence, have witnesses and have found criminal elements. "Especially with the CCTV findings yesterday which made this case clear," he said.

The confiscated CCTV images will certainly provide the full picture. "What happened, where and how it happened and who played a role," he said.

Edi Hasibuan said the results of the re-autopsy will also make this case clearer.

Edi assessed that the development of the handling of the shooting cases proved that the special police team worked objectively, maximally and professionally.

The special police team, he said, had carried out step by step in the legal process until it would finally determine the suspect.

The shooting case of Brigadier J on Friday, July 8 aroused public suspicion that the National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo formed a special team to investigate, led by Inspector General of Supervision Komjen Pol Agung Budi Maryoto.

The National Police Chief has deactivated the Head of the Profession and Security Division (Kadiv Propam) of the National Police Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, the Head of the Internal Security Bureau (Paminal) of the National Police Brigadier General Hendra Kurniawan and the South Jakarta Police Chief Kombes Budhi Herdi.

The National Police have also approved the re-autopsy of Brigadier J's body, which was buried in Jambi, with the involvement of a team of doctors from outside the Police.
