BANDA ACEH - The public prosecutor of the Simeulue District Attorney's Office (Kejari), Aceh, received evidence in the form of cash amounting to more than Rp. 1.4 billion from the case of corruption in the maintenance of roads and bridges.

Simeulue Kejari Chief R Hari Wibowo said the money was evidence that was confiscated by police investigators, not refunds for state losses or fines for the defendants.

"We received this evidence in the form of cash from the bank where we were deposited and then we deposited it into the state treasury as a return for state losses from corruption," said R Hari Wibowo as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 21.

The corruption case in the maintenance of roads and bridges at the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Simeulue Regency for the 2017 fiscal year with five defendants.

The five defendants, namely Ali Hasmi, were sentenced to seven years in prison, fined Rp. 350 million with a subsidiary of six months in prison and sentenced to pay compensation of Rp. 1.89 billion and if they did not pay, they were sentenced to three years in prison.

And the defendant Beureueh Firdaus, sentenced to six years in prison, fined Rp. 300 million, a subsidiary of six months, sentenced to pay compensation for state losses of Rp. 900 million and a subsidiary to two years in prison.

"The sentence is in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia which upheld the appeal of the Banda Aceh High Court. So far, the defendants have not paid the fine or compensation for state losses," said R Hari Wibowo.

R Hari Wibowo said that if the defendants did not pay the fine, they would have to undergo a substitute sentence in the form of corporal confinement.

Meanwhile, the money to compensate the state for losses will be confiscated. If you do not own property, then you are punished with corporal confinement.

"Within this year, the Simeulue District Attorney has returned the compensation for state losses from corruption cases to the state treasury of up to Rp 2 billion," said R Hari Wibowo.
