The Case Of Selling A Baby In Tanjung Priok: The Victim's Mother Can't Pay Her Husband's Debt, She Is Willing To Bring Her 8 Months Old Child To Be Taken By Her Cousin For Sale

JAKARTA - The Tanjung Priok Port Police revealed a case of selling an 8-month-old baby on social media with a debt motive. The perpetrator, a woman with the initials A (51) has a cousin relationship with the baby's parents, S (initials). He collects a debt of Rp11 million from S's husband, the baby's father with the initials K, who has not returned from sailing for fish in 3 months.

The Head of Criminal Investigation (Reskrim) of the Tanjung Priok Port Police, AKP Sang Ngurah Wiratama explained, in that case, K actually owed A to A.

However, said Wiratama, the victim's father, who works as a fisherman, has gone sailing until now has not returned and given any news.

"(K) went to sea in a state of leaving debt with the perpetrators. Haven't been home since 3 months. So he didn't give any news," said Wiratama when contacted by VOI, Thursday, July 21.

"But it's usually if you go to sea it can take up to 3-6 months," he continued.

Apparently, suspect A did not care about the death of the victim's father who had been gone for months. The suspect forced S to pay his husband's debt. However, because she was unable to pay the debt, the mother gave up her baby being taken by the suspect.

“Finally, the mother gave up and gave the baby to the perpetrator. But the perpetrators of the initiative to sell it (the baby). In this case, the baby is 8 months old, the nephew of the suspect," he said.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim) of the Tanjung Priok Port Police, AKP Sang Ngurah Wiratama said that the suspect sold via WhatsApp (WA) and Facebook messages. Satreskrim also traced the perpetrator's posts on Facebook.

“The first time there was Facebook, but not for long. Just a few minutes, when we saw it, it was deleted by him. But we already have it. we get the data, we trace it," said Wiratama when contacted by VOI, Thursday, July 20.

"(after deleting the post) he finally offered via WA messages," he continued. The perpetrator offered the baby via WA messages to people he knew only, for Rp. 30 million.

Wiratama also added, there are already several people who intend to buy the baby. However, the company is still investigating the amount.

“The cream is known people. If there is a confession (A) that has been bid. (The amount) is still being investigated," he said.
