JAKARTA - Haagen-Dazs Indonesia has withdrawn vanilla-flavoured ice cream products from the market in Indonesia due to the findings of Ethylene Oxide (EtO) exceeding the threshold from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
The boss of Haagen-Dazs Indonesia Dita Soedarjo said that the vanilla ice cream product was withdrawn for 100 ml minicup, 473 ml pint and 9.47 liter bulk cans.
"Recall and you can exchange the ice cream," said Dita Soedarjo as the owner of Haagen-Dazs Indonesia to VOI, Thursday, July 21.
As for consumers who have purchased the products mentioned above, Haagen-Dazs provides the opportunity to exchange the product for another flavor variant at the nearest official outlet with a deadline of 31 August 2022.
Haagen-Dazs provides conditions that the products exchanged have packaging in good condition and have a production date of June 1, 2021 to December 3, 2022, and a good date for consumption is August 1, 2022 to July 27, 2023.
Dita said that her party had also temporarily suspended the sale of 11 Haagen-Dazs products while waiting for the results of further investigations from BPOM.
Meanwhile, the temporarily discontinued Haagen-Dazs products include the Tiramisu flavor variant in bulk can packaging; Belgian Chicilate variant, Cara,e; Biscuit & Cream, Dark Chocolate Ganache & Almond in minicup, pint, and bulk can packaging.
Furthermore, the Cookies & Cream variants are packaged in minicup, pint, bulk can and stickbar packaging; Blueberry & Cream variant in minicup and pint packaging; Salted Caramel variant in pint and stickbar packaging.
Then the Chocolate Choc Almond, Vanilla Caramel Almond, Macadamia Nut Brittle, and Matcha Green Tea & Almond variants in stickbar packaging.
"We also recall the taste that is not problematic," said Dita.
As is known, BPOM withdrew a number of Haagen-Dazs ice cream products after finding that the EtO content exceeded the threshold. The recall of the French product was announced through the official website www.pom.go.id.
BPOM stated the background for the product recall in relation to information from EURASFF received by the Indonesia Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (INRASFF) on 8 July 2022.
EtO is known to be a pesticide that functions as a fumigant. The finding of EtO residues in food is an emerging issue that started with a notification by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (EURASFF) in 2020.
The Codex Allimentarius Commission (CAC) as an international organization under the World Health Organization (WHO) has not set a maximum limit for EtO residues so that the settings vary in each country.
