BNPT Conducts Counter Narratives Related To Terrorism In Papua

JAKARTA - Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Komjen Boy Rafli Amar said his agency carried out counter-narratives related to handling terrorism in Papua.

"The narrative against the hatred that the group has built has been implemented," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 19.

He explained that BNPT works in the field of prevention, which continues to make efforts to build the spirit of early awareness of the people in Papua to counter narratives against terrorist groups in Papua.

The group, he said, builds a spirit of hatred against the state. The group has shown the characteristics of terrorism, justifies violence, with ideological motives accompanied by political goals that want independence.

"In terms of law enforcement, the problem of violence must be resolved legally, in cooperation with the TNI and Polri," he explained.

In addition, continued Boy Rafli, various approaches were taken to resolve the Papua case. One of them is how to stop violence in the shortest possible time, so that there are no more victims.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that terrorism does not only represent a particular religion, therefore terrorism is not merely a matter of faith.

He gave an example of the Free Papua Movement Organization (OPM) in Papua being called terrorism because it is not only related to a particular religion.

"The OPM has political and ideological motives. Its politics wants to break itself, its ideology does not want to unite, it does not want Pancasila, then it commits violence in public places, burns airports, shoots civilians," he asserted.
