SEMARANG - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Police has named the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Pemalang Regency, MA, as a suspect in alleged corruption in the construction of roads in the area in 2010 which caused losses of around Rp. 1 billion.

Director of the Central Java Police Special Criminal Investigation Kombes Johanson Simamora said MA was named a suspect in his capacity as Head of the Public Works Service in 2010.

"The suspect is being investigated based on reports from other perpetrators who have completed their sentences," Johanson said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 19.

From the statement of the convict who has served his sentence in the case, the suspect MA is believed to be involved and responsible for the road construction project.

Johanson explained that the Supreme Court suspect allegedly ordered the commitment making official (PPK) to make a report on the construction work of the two packages of roads worth Rp. 6.5 billion which was declared 100 percent complete. In fact, the project has not yet been fully completed.

It is intended that the project financing budget can be immediately disbursed. Johanson said the MA suspect had not yet been arrested.

"We have scheduled a summons for questioning as a suspect," he said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court suspect is reported to have submitted a letter of resignation from the position of Pemalang Regional Secretary about a week ago.
