For Quick Relief For Disasters At Sea, Basarnas Alerts SAR Ships On Belitung Island

BABEL - At least one unit of a rescue boat has been alerted on Belitung Island to provide quick help when a disaster occurs at sea. The effort was carried out by the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) of the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel).

"I have coordinated with local governments in two regencies on Belitung Island regarding the plan to place search and rescue vessels," said Head of the Basarnas Babel I Made Oka Astawa in Manggar, quoted by Antara, Monday, July 18.

Basarnas Babel has two 40-meter aluminum vessels and 36 fiber vessels at Pangkalbalam Port, one of which can be shifted to Belitung Island.

"This is our effort to reach Basarnas services to Belitung Island and we hope the dock will be for the safe placement of one ship with a draft of 2 meters and a length of 36," he said.

Made Oka also asked the local government to provide assistance for the placement of a ship that is currently in the Pangkalbalam area, Pangkalpinang City.

"The point is we need to move faster, if one day something unexpected happens in the waters of Belitung Island," he said.

In addition to human resources, he said, supporting facilities and infrastructure are very important in carrying out this humanitarian task.

"In fact, in our opinion, the placement of a SAR ship on Belitung Island is very important to move faster in the event of an accident at sea," he said.
