JAKARTA - Commander of Korem 173 / PVB, Brigadier General TNI Iwan Setiawan, admitted that one TNI member died in a gun battle with an armed criminal group (KKB) in Titigi District, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.

"It is true that there were reports of gunfire which resulted in the death of a member of the TNI from Yonif 400 Raider," said Iwan Setiawan as quoted by Antara, Friday, November 6.

Apart from causing one TNI member to die, the gunfire also caused another member to suffer gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, Kapen Kogabwilhan III Col. CZI Gusti Nyoman Suriastawa separately acknowledged the incident but did not know about the evacuation of the victim.

"We are still waiting for a complete report regarding the incident including whether the victim has been evacuated or not," said Nyoman Suriastawa.
