Prabowo's Performance Gets Good Marks, Observers: Make PD Nyapres But Not Necessarily The People Choose

JAKARTA - A number of survey agencies agreed to say that the Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo had a good performance in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. Of course this will boost the confidence of the Gerindra Party chairman to come forward again in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

"It could be that these surveys become a consideration for Prabowo to be more confident in advancing in the 2024 presidential election," said the Director of the Indonesia Political Review (IPR), Ujang Komarudin, when contacted by VOI, Friday, November 6.

It's just that, he said, self-confidence is not enough. Because Prabowo still has to be supported by the community to advance in the contest. Because, even though the former Kopassus Danjen has performed well, the public will not necessarily vote for him.

So, instead of thinking about the 2024 presidential election, Ujang reminded Prabowo to remain consistent with his job as Minister of Defense.

"Today's performance is satisfactory, tomorrow or next year is not certain," he said.

"So it must also be consistent in its work. In order to keep getting positive values in the eyes of the public," he added.

In line with Ujang, the Director of the Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO) Dedi Kurnia Syah also has the same view regarding Prabowo's chance in the 2024 presidential election.

Moreover, in a survey they released some time ago, Prabowo's electability tended to decrease compared to some time ago.

"The IPO in the survey for the 12-23 October 2020 period also placed Prabowo as a minister who was considered to be performing well, but in the presidential election electability scheme Prabowi's trend continued to decline, even if it was no longer the top," said Dedi.

It is known, in the survey, the IPO did mention that the name of the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, strengthened in the 2024 presidential candidate market. According to the IPO survey, 17.9 percent of respondents would vote for Ganjar if a presidential election was held.

Meanwhile, the name of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto is in second place with 16.4 percent and DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan 15.3 percent.

Returning to Dedi, his institution had previously conducted the content of testing public optimism about Prabowo's victory in the 2024 presidential election. As a result, the respondents on average answered that Prabowo would again lose the election.

So, he emphasized, the problem of the performance and chances of the Chairman of the Gerindra Party Board of Trustees in the 2024 Presidential Election are things that are actually not very correlated. "Especially for Prabowo who has suffered repeated defeats," he said.

"So there are differences in public perceptions regarding the performance and opportunities of the presidential election," he added.

Previously, the Indo Barometer Survey Institute released the results of a poll related to the performance appraisal of the ministers in the Maju Indonesia cabinet.

This survey was conducted in the period 10 to 17 October 2020 in 34 provinces. The data collection technique is in the form of face-to-face interviews with respondents using a questionnaire.

The survey method used was multistage random sampling to 1200 respondents. The margin of error is 2.83 percent with a confidence level of 95 percent.

"As a result, the ministers who were considered by the public to have good performance mostly revealed Prabowo Subianto's name, followed by Nadiem Makarim, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Erick Thohir, and Mahfud MD," said Indo Barometer Executive Director Mohammad Qodari in his statement, Thursday, November 5.

Of the 1200 respondents, 29.3 percent said Prabowo had the best performance, 16.3 percent chose Nadiem as the best minister, 15.2 percent chose Sri Mulyani, 12 percent chose Erick Thohir.

Of the respondents who chose Prabowo as the minister with the best performance, the biggest reason was because he was considered to have a good leadership spirit with a proportion of 22.5 percent.
