DENPASAR - Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office Dr dr I Nyoman Gede Anom said the government's plan to change the name of the Sanglah Government General Hospital (RSUP) has been approved by the Minister of Health.

"The governor of Bali proposed to the Ministry of Health that the name Sanglah Hospital be changed to IGN Gede Ngoerah Hospital, and it was approved by the Minister of Health," said the Head of the Bali Health Service in Denpasar,

reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 13. The change to the name of the hospital, which has been operating since 1959, began with the submission of a letter from the Governor of Bali Number 440/1964/Yankes.Diskes dated February 11, 2020, in which the governor proposed changing the name of Sanglah Hospital to Prof. Dr. IGN Gede Ngoerah.

In his submission at that time, the naming of health facilities which were commonly determined by the Ministry would refer to the name of the hero, the name of the person who contributed, the location/place of the health facility, not in a foreign language, sociological aspects, and the name of the hospital that had never been used.

Then the name change proposal was based on a letter from the Bali Provincial DPRD Number 593/605/DPRD dated January 20, 2020 which proposed changing the name of Sanglah Hospital to Prof. Dr. IGN Gede Ngoerah, who was the first doctor to pioneer the midwifery division which was the forerunner to the establishment of Sanglah Hospital.

Prof. Dr. IGN Gede Ngoerah is known to be the first specialist doctor as well as the first neurologist in Bali, as well as the doctor of President Soekarno's presidency in Bali. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chancellor of Udayana University, Bali.

Regarding the inauguration of the change in the name of Sanglah Hospital which is located on Jalan Diponegoro, Denpasar, Anom said that the date could not be determined, considering that this hospital was under the Ministry of Health.

"It will be changed immediately when the operating permit is handed over to Sanglah Hospital. The date has not been notified by the Ministry of Health, but the plan is to coincide with the issuance of the operational permit," Anom told the media.

Because the time has not been determined, Anom said that all changes can later be confirmed directly by the President Director of Sanglah Hospital because the ownership of the hospital is not under the Bali Provincial Government.
