KPK Confirms Investigation Of Mardani Maming's Bribery And Gratification Allegation Continues Despite Pretrial

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that the alleged bribery and gratification case of former Tanah Bumbu Regent Mardani H. Maming will continue. The investigation process will not be stopped even if a pretrial is submitted.

"We need to convey that this pretrial application does not hinder the KPK's efforts to continue conducting investigations," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri in a written statement, Tuesday, July 12.

Ali explained that the pretrial only examined the formal aspects of the allegation, such as whether or not the arrest or determination of the suspect was legal. Meanwhile, the main substance of the ongoing allegations will not be discussed in the pretrial hearing.

Ali said that KPK investigators were professional in carrying out their duties. All processes run according to the rules.

"We emphasize that the investigation of this case has been carried out professionally and purely by law enforcement as the main duties and functions of the KPK are in accordance with the law," he said.

"KPK hopes that law enforcement in the mining licensing sector can then be a trigger for efforts to improve systems and governance for relevant stakeholders," Ali continued.

Previously reported, Mardani filed a pretrial lawsuit to the South Jakarta District Court after receiving a letter of determination of the suspect from the KPK. The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) appointed members of the Governor's Team for the Acceleration of Development (TGUPP) DKI Jakarta Bambang Widjojanto and former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Denny Indrayana as legal counsel.

The chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) has been named a suspect in allegations of bribery and gratification related to mining permits in Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan. This corrupt practice allegedly occurred when Mardani was still in office.

The KPK's determination of Maming as a suspect was initially known from the Directorate General of Immigration when confirming the existence of prevention abroad. Meanwhile, the KPK has not made an announcement because efforts to force detention have not been carried out.
