KUPANG - The Army Retired Army Association (PPAD) has assisted in handling the problem of clean water availability in the Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

PPAD General Chairperson Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Doni Monardo understands the problem of the availability of clean water that has long occurred in Kupang Regency and seeks solutions to overcome these problems.

"I once served on Timor Island in 1985. I know exactly the problem of clean water in this area until now," he said in front of former East Timorese in Noelbaki Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency. .

He said he was concerned when he read an article about the clean water crisis faced by former East Timorese living on Timor Island, including Kupang Regency.

This concern prompted him to contact the President Director of PT Indika Energy, Arsjad Rasjid, who currently also serves as the General Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to seek assistance in providing clean water facilities.

"Pak Arsjad said he would help. Finally I contacted Mr. Maruli, who at that time was still serving as the Commander of the IX/Udayana Regional Military Command so that it was finally realized until now," he said.

He hopes that the 16 drilled wells built by the Indonesian Army in five regencies in East Nusa Tenggara can help residents meet their clean water needs.

Kupang Regent Korinus Masneno appreciated the support of the Army in providing clean water facilities in the East Nusa Tenggara region, including 23 units of hydrant pumps in Kupang Regency.

"We are very grateful because it also supports the Kupang Regency Government's program through the 5P program which requires water for various community economic businesses, because water has been a problem in Kupang Regency," he said referring to the development of agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism, plantations, and fisheries.

"This area is a kitchen for Kupang City because all agricultural products for the needs of the people in the capital city of NTT Province come from Kupang Regency," he added.
