MEDAN - Mandailing Natal (Madina) Police, North Sumatra, arrested a man named Aten for shooting his friend Yudi (32), with an air rifle. The incident was triggered by the victim's debt problem which reached more than Rp. 17 million.

The Madina Police Chief, AKBP Reza Chairul, said the incident occurred in front of the Tambangan sub-district office, Friday, July 1 afternoon. At first, the victim was found lying limp in front of the office.

"When it was found the victim had a gunshot wound to the chest, left side. Residents then took him to the nearest hospital," said AKBP Reza, Monday, July 11.

AKBP Reza explained that the suspect was allegedly shot by the suspect at close range with an air rifle. The shooting was triggered when the two were arguing over debt problems.

"The perpetrator of Aten felt hurt towards the victim, who allegedly did not have a good response, to the suspect, when the suspect collected a debt to the victim of Rp. 17,899,000," he said.

In addition to not paying off his debt, the victim insulted herself and the perpetrator's parents with harsh words. Incidentally, when he met the victim, the perpetrator had just returned from hunting animals using an air rifle, because he was annoyed that the perpetrator shot the victim.

"The victim was so angry that the suspect fired and pointed the air rifle at the victim. After shooting, the suspect fled," he explained.

From this information, Madina Police and North Sumatra Police immediately conducted an investigation. As a result, officers were able to arrest the perpetrator in Siundol Village, Sosopan District, Padang Lawas Regency, Thursday, July 7, in the early hours of the morning.

"Furthermore, the suspect and evidence were brought to the Madina Police for legal proceedings," he said

During interrogation, the perpetrator admitted his crime. As a result of his actions, the perpetrator was charged with a criminal offense of severe assault.

"As referred to in Article 351 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of five years," he said.
