National PMK Update 7 July: 106,925 Mambuh Serangan, 2,016 Mati, Mewide To 231 Kota Regency

JAKARTA - The Coordinator of the Expert Team for the Task Force for Handling Ethnic Diseases and Nails (PMK) Wiku Adisasmito revealed that there were 317,889 cases of PMK in even-contained livestock spread across 21 provinces in Indonesia as of Thursday, July 7.

Wiku explained that the PMK case also spread in 231 districts/cities, and of these 106,925 animals of which recovered.

"A total of 2,016 people died, and 3,489 of the total cases were conditionally cut," Wiku said at an online press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, July 7.

Wiku said, based on the current type of livestock, PMK has attacked the most cattle, namely 39,000 individuals, then 5,600 buffalo, 1,300 goats, 1,000 sheep and 16 pigs.

"It needs to be a concern that although currently the PMK virus on livestock is not contagious to humans, humans can carry the virus and infect healthy animals," he said.

So according to him, the community must work hand in hand in handling PMK, because this disease has a significant impact on economic development in Indonesia.

"With so many cows that must be cut conditionally and there are also dead cows, of course, it will have a huge impact on the sales of livestock and animal food products consumed by the community," he said.
