JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights ensures that face-to-face visits to inmates can still be carried out despite an increase in PPKM status in several regions in Indonesia.

The Head of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, explained that the terms and conditions for its implementation would be handed back to each correctional institution (prison) and state detention center (rutan).

"We leave it to the prison for implementation, whether it needs to be done or not, it is handed over to the head of the prison and the head of the detention center," said Rika in Jakarta, Thursday, July 7.

Face-to-face visiting services for inmates will be re-opened on June 30, 2022, in accordance with the Circular Letter of the Director General of Corrections Number: PAS-12.HH.01.02 Year 2022, dated June 30, 2022.

Rika explained that the circular is valid nationally, but face-to-face visit services still refer to the coordination between the head of prison and the head of the detention center and the task force for handling COVID-19 in each region.

"Prisons and detention centers will definitely follow and consider and definitely coordinate with task forces (to handle COVID-19) in each region," he said, quoted from Antara.

The Directorate General of PAS for more than 2 years has eliminated face-to-face visits to inmates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, the visiting inmates can only be done virtually.

The Directorate General of PAS has also socialized the opening of face-to-face visit services through the official social media accounts of the Directorate General of Past and Social Affairs as well as the social media accounts of prisons and detention centers.

Rika also added that the face-to-face visits to the inmates must implement health protocols for both parties.
