Preventing ACT Cases From Recurring, Arsul Sani Encourages The Establishment Of A Public Fundraising Law

JAKARTA - House of Representatives Commission III member Arsul Sani said that a Law on Public Fundraising was needed to address allegations of misappropriation of funds by the Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Foundation so that it would not happen again.

"So far, the regulation related to this is only an administrative arrangement at the ministerial level, if I'm not mistaken it is regulated by the social minister," said Arsul Sani in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 6.

He said, every time there are incidents that are detrimental to the public interest and have entered the realm of law violation, then there must be a legal process.

But the question is, whether the legal process is administrative or administrative and criminal, then the authorities must decide.

If you look at the ACT case, for example, the Financial Transaction Analysis Reporting Center (PPATK) conducts an analysis, Arsul Sani is sure that PPATK will then produce a report on the results of financial transaction analysis.

Then if in the report on the results of the analysis there are allegations of any criminal acts, the PPATK must submit it to law enforcement.

"I think we will also in the future, so that philanthropic charity activities should be encouraged, because they are beneficial for people who can't afford it," he said, according to Antara.

However, he said, there should be no parties who take advantage of philanthropic activities for the benefit of enriching themselves.

On a separate occasion, political observer Ujang Komarudin from Al Azhar University Indonesia supports the need for a law on public fundraising.

"This is interesting because the DPR is responding to the phenomenon of alleged misappropriation of funds by philanthropic institutions, one of which is ACT," said Ujang.

He sees this as good, because the government and the DPR must respond to this as part of their duty to safeguard public funds.

The proposal for the need for a law regarding public fundraising is important, so that in the future the events that occurred in ACT will not be repeated.

Law and politics must keep up with the times, the current development is an effort to prevent misappropriation of public funds in philanthropic institutions.

There must be clear rules and sanctions related to the issue of raising public funds, therefore the law on public fundraising is important.
