JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) stated that it is preparing rules and mechanisms for the application of a third vaccine (booster) as a condition for transportation travel.

"Currently, the Ministry of Transportation is discussing the readiness of its implementation with stakeholders in the transportation sector," said Transportation Ministry Spokesperson Adita Irawati in a written statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 5.

Adita said the preparations were made in line with President Joko Widodo's direction to encourage booster vaccines in Indonesia by imposing booster vaccinations as a condition for travel and community activities.

According to him, the Ministry of Transportation's reference regarding the implementation of the policy, like the previous implementation, is the Circular from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force regarding the rules for travel requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Currently the Task Force Circular is also being prepared," he said.

The plan to implement booster vaccines as a travel requirement will be followed by vaccinations in various places, one of which is at transportation nodes such as airports, terminals, stations, and ports.

"We have done this before and it has been proven to help achieve vaccination rates throughout Indonesia," he said.

The Ministry of Transportation also continues to urge the public to stay alert in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and remain disciplined in carrying out health protocols, especially wearing masks, and immediately getting booster vaccinations to maintain antibodies in the body.

"We hope that the COVID-19 pandemic case will continue to slop, so that people can be more free to do activities outside their homes," he concluded.
