Chaos At The Paniai Papua Regent's Office, One Police Is Persecuted By Massa

JAYAPURA - The security situation is conducive after a riot at the Paniai Regency Regent's office, Papua. In this incident, a police officer was molested by a mob.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that Paniai Police personnel were still securing the Regent's office. The team also conducts patrols.

"The Paniai Police Chief has taken steps to handle it and is trying to negotiate with the village heads to calm the masses in each village so they don't carry out anarchic actions," said Kombes Kamal in a written statement, Tuesday, July 5.

The riot started during a Bamus meeting at the Paniai Regent's office. One group, who was dissatisfied, broke the door of the regent's office and attacked by throwing stones.

“Members who carried out security inside asked for help from the Paniai Police in an effort to break up the chaos. By the time the aid arrived from the Paniai District Police, there was already a commotion, and the crowd vandalized the Paniai Regent's office. Members also took action to disperse the crowd by using tear gas,” said Kombes Kamal.

After the crowd left the courtyard of the Paniai regent's office, the police received information that 2 residents were taken to the hospital.

"After being taken to the Madi Hospital, one of the residents named Donatos Nawipa has died from a torn wound in the abdomen," he said.

Not only that, the mob also vandalized the Regent's house and persecuted 2 Paniai Police personnel who were guarding the Paniai Regent's residence.

"However, Brigadier Roi managed to save himself, while Brigadier Pimlipki was abused by the masses, resulting in injuries from being hit by a sharp object in his right leg (torn) and is currently under medical treatment," said Kombes Kamal.
