Grandson Of Grandma Killer Dies Suicide In Hospital, Malang Police Stop Legal Process

MALANG - The Malang Resort Police (Polres) has stopped investigating the murder case of a grandmother with the initials W (70) in Manggisari Hamlet, Bocek Village, Karangploso District, Malang Regency, East Java.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Malang Police AKP Donny Bara'lang said that his party had conducted a case and named the suspect in the murder of W, namely the grandson of the victim with the initials MS (18).

"We have stopped the process of investigating the case because currently the perpetrator has died while undergoing treatment due to a suicide attempt," said Donny, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 5.

MS reportedly died on July 1, 2022 while being treated at the Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Malang City. Based on the doctor's statement, MS died of pneumonia.

Doctors at Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang City had time to provide medical assistance to MS by using a breathing apparatus. However, the life of the key witness in the murder case could not be saved.

Donny explained that based on the results of the case, it was known that the suspect had hit the victim with a blunt object and hit the upper body and caused the victim to die. After the victim died, the perpetrator was frightened and attempted suicide.

According to him, the motive for the murder committed by MS against his grandmother was because the suspect was often scolded by the victim. This caused the perpetrator to have the intention to beat and kill his own grandmother.

"The motive for the murder was because the suspect was often scolded with dirty words in public. So, the perpetrator had the intention to kill the victim. The suspect was afraid and then tried to commit suicide," he explained.

Based on the evidence obtained as well as statements from several eyewitnesses, the Malang Police determined MS as the main perpetrator in the murder of W's grandmother. Then, the process of stopping the investigation of the case is carried out in accordance with Article 77 of the Criminal Code.

On June 7, 2022, a resident of RT04/06 Dusun Manggisari, Bocek Village, Karangploso District, found W and his grandson MS suffered serious injuries at home in the area.

In that incident, W died at the scene, while MS had asked local residents for help despite suffering injuries to his neck and stomach.

MS was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before being referred to Saiful Anwar Hospital. While undergoing treatment at the hospital, MS was reported to have attempted suicide several times so that police officers tightened guard against MS.
