Ustaz Adi Hidayat Claims Captain Pattimura's Real Name Is Ahmad Lussy, Abu Janda: Just Take It, Don't Talk About History, It Looks Stupid

JAKARTA - The content of Ustaz Adi Hidayat's (UAH) lecture has again become a byword for netizens. This time, UAH took issue with Kapitan Pattimura's real name.

"Once upon a time, I saw that the 1,000 note had a picture of Kapitan Pattimura. What was his real name? Thomas Matulessy. Look carefully, many people are trying to call Thomas Matulessy. Ahmad Lussy," said UAD in a 1 minute 24 second video that went viral on social media.

UAH claims that Kapitan Pattimura's real name is Ahmad Lussy, not Thomas Matulessy as written in history books so far. He said that Ahmad Lussy was the leader of the pesantren as well as a fighter.

Even in the video, UAH claims that Ahmad Lussy was changed to Thomas Matulessy due to the actions of the western nation that used to colonize Indonesia so that it is not identical with Muslims.

"That's why the names were discarded like the West had done it before," said the famous cleric.

Knowing this, social media activist Permadi Arya alias Abu Janda said he was furious. According to Permadi, UAH has acted lightly by distorting the facts that have been documented long ago.

"Captain Patimura's name is Thomas Matulessy, that's a documented historical fact, earlier," explained Permadi in a video on his Instagram account, @permadiaktivis2, Tuesday, July 5.

Permadi again explained that Thomas Matulessy's name had been written in Dutch historical records. To make it easy to understand, Permadi also affixed visual evidence of historical documents that explain this.

"There is a Dutch heritage document written by Thomas Matulessy, not Ahmad Lusy. Don't you all say that Pope Francis' real name is Fauzi Firdaus??" Permadi said.

In a viral video claiming Thomas Matulessy's real name is Ahmad Lussy, UAH had said that Indonesian history had been played with.

In response, Permadi said that UAH does not have special expertise in the field of history, it should not be nonsense. He suggested that UAH should focus on teaching religion only.

"It's you who are playing with history, earlier. It's just the Koran, there's no need to talk about history. Sorry, it looks stupid," said Permadi.

Quoting the official website of the Directorate of Junior High Schools of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek), Kapitan Pattimura is called a national hero from Maluku.

Pattimura comes from the Matulessy family. He was born June 8, 1783 in Haria, Saparua, Central Maluku. His father's name is Frans Matulessy and his mother's name is Fransina Silahoi.

Pattimura started his career as a military officer. He is a former British military sergeant who finally resisted Dutch colonialism who entered the Moluccas to control the spice trade.
