MAKASSAR - The North Luwu (Lutra) Regency Government, South Sulawesi is targeting to be able to insure an agricultural area of 11,000 hectares in the Rice Farmer Business Insurance (AUTP) in the 2022 budget year.

North Luwu Regent Indah Putri Indriani said the local government has a target of registering an agricultural area as an AUTP participant of 11,000 hectares for the 2022 planting season.

"We are optimistic that we will be able to realize the target of 11,000 hectares before the end of this fiscal year. We are committed even though we have ups and downs given the regional financial condition, we will not reduce this program specifically, we want to expand it," said Indah as quoted by Antara, Monday, July 4.

Temporary data registered in the Agricultural Insurance Information System (SIAP) application for rice cultivation covers an area of 3,752.92 hectares and is likely to continue to grow.

"I thank you for the cooperation that has been established with various parties in order to help farmers as food warriors, lighten the burden for those who are affected by disasters, both floods and pest attacks on their rice plants," said Indah.

In addition to the agricultural area, the Lutra Regional Government is also following up on the cooperation between the Buffalo Cattle Livestock Insurance (AUTSK) and PT Jasindo Makassar.

Regarding AUTSK, North Luwu Regency has considerable potential with a total of 32,859 cows and buffaloes. Therefore, Indah plans to be able to insure 10,000 head of livestock in the early stages.

This insurance is presented to provide security guarantees for the community's agricultural land and livestock against various threats of natural disasters and so on.

"Therefore, we must give farmers and ranchers incentives so that they will continue to farm and raise livestock because there is a guarantee of safety, protection for their business, whether it be rice farmers or livestock," said Indah.
