Not Only About The Presidential Election, UI Chancellor Encourages Political Parties To Discuss World Geopolitics

JAKARTA - The Chancellor of the University of Indonesia (UI) Ari Kuncoro encouraged political parties in Indonesia to not only discuss domestic politics, such as the maneuvering of political elites towards the presidential election. But also reach geopolitics or issues of justice and world peace.

This was conveyed by Ari in opening an international seminar with the theme 'Political Parties and Democracy with the sub-theme The Political Parties Roles in Promoting The World Peace Justice' in Yogyakarta, Monday 4 July.

"Political parties should not only be concerned with internal problems, but should be more involved in contributing to conflict resolution and world peace," Ari said in a written statement, quoted from Antara.

Moreover, he continued, the world is currently in the midst of a conflict-ridden, ambiguous, and war-ridden Russia-Ukraine condition.

The world has been spoiled by globalization and cooperating with each other. But suddenly faced with a condition of deglobalization which resulted in global inflation leading to a world recession.

"The global community is looking forward to the role of political parties through concrete actions and contributing to the solutions the world needs. President Jokowi is trying to set an example by taking real action by visiting Russia and Ukraine. This is one example that deserves to be followed," he explained.

Doctor of Defense Science at the Defense University (Unhan) who is also the Secretary General of the PDI-P DPP Hasto Kristiyanto said his party agreed with Ari's statement. How awareness of political parties needs to be built in responsibility for the world.

"The Russo-Ukrainian war made us realize that what the founding fathers had initiated is that one of the goals of the state is that we actively involve ourselves in building world order and peace. Based on independence, eternal peace, and this must be the social responsibility of political parties," said Hasto.

He considered that political parties must build an 'international network' for efforts to implement Pancasila in the international system.

"Through this seminar, the values of justice and how world peace is realized by political parties, especially through international diplomacy, are important to be reappointed," he said.
