NTB - The recovery rate of livestock from foot and mouth disease (PMK) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has increased to 28,132 heads.

Head of the NTB Livestock and Animal Health Service (Disnakeswan), Ahmad Nur Aulia, said the figure was 28,132 out of 55,600 livestock affected by FMD.

"Based on the development of PMK on Lombok Island as of July 2, 2022, the number of affected livestock was 55,600, 27,222 were sick, 28,132 were cured, 176 were conditionally slaughtered and 70 died," said Aulia in Mataram, NTB, Monday, July 4.

He explained that this figure is out of the total population of animals that are susceptible to FMD such as cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep and pigs, which amount to 950,551 heads.

"If you look at the daily chart for the last 14 days, this recovery rate continues to increase," he said.

Aulia said that of the five regencies and cities on the island of Lombok, the most cases of PMK were in Central Lombok Regency. Of the total population of 323,232, the number of cases of FMD was 20,442, 9,250 were sick, 11,180 recovered, 12 were subject to conditional slaughter and none died.

Furthermore, East Lombok Regency with 12,379 FMD cases, 4,607 sick, 7,680 recovered, 75 tails were conditionally slaughtered and 17 died. The total population of livestock reached 269,285 tails.

Then, West Lombok Regency from a total population of 225,474 tails, cases of livestock affected by FMD were 11,626 heads, 4,272 were sick, 7,337 were cured, 6 tails were conditionally slaughtered and 11 died.

North Lombok Regency, livestock population 178,752 tails, 10,592 affected by FMD cases, 9,028 sick, 1,501 cured, 27 tails conditional slaughter, 36 dead.

Meanwhile, Mataram City from a population of 3,800 individuals, 561 cases of PMK, 65 sick, 434 recovered, 56 conditionally slaughtered and 6 died.

Meanwhile, to prevent the case from spreading, based on the Antara report, Aulia said that her party had received 2,400 doses of vaccine from the central government and immediately distributed it to five districts and cities on Lombok Island affected by FMD.

For each district and city of the 2,400 vaccines for the City of Mataram, 100 doses are targeted, North Lombok 500 doses, West Lombok 602 doses, Central Lombok 600 doses, and East Lombok 598 doses.

"The vaccine was distributed by involving all medical and paramedics on the island of Lombok," said Aulia.

Previously, the Deputy Governor of NTB, Sitti Rohmi Djalillah, admitted that he was optimistic that the PMK case could be controlled because the handling of FMD in livestock such as cattle must be handled with calm accompanied by synergy, collaboration and good understanding by all parties.

"The importance of education for farmers, so that when the FMD virus spreads, breeders do not panic and understand what to do," said the Deputy Governor of NTB.

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the PMK virus could be cured, so he asked the public not to panic.

"FMD is the same as other viruses and can be cured, it takes calm and understanding so that you know what to do," he said.
