JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria admitted that the process of changing 22 street names to names of Betawi figures was carried out without involving the DKI Jakarta DPRD. However, Riza confirmed that his party would notify council members regarding this change. This statement was in response to a complaint by the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, who said that DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had changed the name of the street without the knowledge of the council members.

"We have gone through a process. It will be notified (to the DKI Jakarta DPRD," said Riza at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Friday, July 1.

Riza also responded to the rejection of several residents who were affected by the change of street names, one of whom was a resident of Tanah Tinggi, Central Jakarta.

Riza asked the public to understand that this process of change was carried out with careful consideration. Once again he explained, the purpose of the names of the characters enshrined in the street names was to honor their services.

"Regarding community complaints, we understand and pay attention. In principle, naming roads with Betawi figures, other figures, is intended to both give appreciation and respect, and hopefully become an example for all of us," explained Riza.

Previously, the chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, admitted that he was not surprised by the change of street names in Jakarta to use the name of a Betawi figure initiated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, which attracted residents' rejection.

This is because Anies decided to change the name of the road without consulting the DKI DPRD. Likewise with affected residents who feel they have not received socialization on the change in the name of this road.

"As a local government, as a protector, that's why you can talk to the DPRD. You don't even talk to the DPRD, how about the community?" Prasetyo told reporters.

Therefore, this PDIP politician asked residents who refused to change the name of the street to conduct an audience with the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

"If people want to complain, they can. We will accommodate them later. We can just call the Government Assistant (Setda DKI Jakarta Province)," he said.

As is known, protests for the change of street names by the Governor of DKI Jakarta continue to emerge. Previously, residents of Jalan Budaya which turned into Jalan Entong Gendut in the Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta, expressed their complaints.

This time, residents of RW 06 Tanah Tinggi Sub-district, Johar Baru District, admitted that they did not accept and refused to change the name of the street in their area.

In changing the name of Jalan Tanah Tinggi V to Jalan Hamid Arief, residents claimed that they had never been involved. Residents said, there was no deliberation or notification of the change of street name from the local kelurahan.

"We were never involved in deliberation at all. Residents, even the head of the RT did not receive any notification. We also residents strongly objected to the change in the name of the road," said Irzon, a resident of RT 10/06, Tanah Tinggi Village, Johar. New, rejected, Thursday, June 30.
