Duh, Jayapura Regency Government Admits Lack Of 514 Teachers

JAKARTA - Jayapura Regency, Papua admits that there is still a shortage of 514 teachers to teach school levels in the region.

Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw in a press release received by Antara said the number of schools in his area is 198, consisting of 135 elementary schools, 44 junior high schools and 19 senior high schools including vocational high schools.

"While the number of teachers in SD is 44 people, SMP 198 and SMA 101 and SMK are 171 people," he said.

According to Mathius, the number of teacher shortages of 514 is the same as 2021 even though at that time his party had contracted hundreds of teachers to cover the shortage, but in 2022 there were still shortages.

"Maybe our data is invalid because of the number of teacher shortages where the number in 2021 is the same as 2022," he said.

Thus, his party hopes that in the future the relevant agencies can prepare data for teachers in Jayapura Regency so that they are truly valid to ensure all the shortcomings and needs of the number of teachers in this 'kambai umbai' earth.

"So there is no overlapping data in making policies, not to mention the authority to manage SMA and SMA who will return to the Regency," he said again.

He explained that the shortage of teachers is a concern for all parties because being a teacher, whether it's a contract or an honorarium, doesn't matter, but the most important thing is the best education for the children of the Papuan generation.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Jayapura Regency Education Office, Ted Mokay, said that the need for teachers in the region follows the birth rate, where every year there is an increase and new student admissions.

"The minimum number of additional teachers every year reaches 30 people who can be distributed at every level of education, such as classroom teachers in elementary schools, where every school must have six teachers, not to mention teachers according to subjects and grade levels and levels of education," he said.
