Jakarta Street Name Change Receiving Rejection, Head Of DKI DPRD Asks Residents To Report

JAKARTA - The change in the name of the street to the name of a Betawi figure in Jakarta by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan has drawn complaints from a number of affected residents.

In response to this, the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, asked residents who refused to change the name of the street to have an audience with the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

"If people want to complain, they can. We will accommodate them later. We can just call the Government Assistant (Setda Provisni DKI Jakarta)," said Prasetyo when met in the Thousand Islands, Thursday, June 30.

Prasetyo explained that Anies' decision to change 22 street names in Jakarta was carried out without the knowledge of the DKI DPRD. There, Anies suddenly announced the change of the name of the street.

In fact, Prasetyo emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government needs to consult a government policy plan first with members of the council, before the policy is implemented.

"We refer to the governor's regulation, Pak Sutiyoso (former Governor of DKI Jakarta). It clearly says that if you are holding something, you must consult with the DPRD," said Prasetyo.

"The name of the regional government is him (Anies and the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government), there is me (the DKI DPRD). He is the one who receives the money (APBB), I am the one who knocks the hammer. If this (change in street name) he is stealing himself, " he said.

As is known, protests for the change of street names by the Governor of DKI Jakarta continue to emerge. Previously, residents of Jalan Budaya which turned into Jalan Entong Gendut in the Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta, expressed their complaints.

This time, residents of RW 06 Tanah Tinggi Sub-district, Johar Baru District, admitted that they did not accept and refused to change the name of the street in their area.

In changing the name of Jalan Tanah Tinggi V to Jalan Hamid Arief, residents claimed that they had never been involved. Residents said, there was no deliberation or notification of the change of street name from the local kelurahan.

"We were never involved in deliberation at all. Residents, even the head of the RT did not receive any notification. We also residents strongly objected to the change in the name of the road," said Irzon, a resident of RT 10/06, Tanah Tinggi Village, Johar. New, rejected, Thursday, June 30.

Irzon said that the name change of Jalan Tanah Tinggi V to Jalan Hamid Arief did not involve any residents. Even the local RT did not know about this and instead the street signage was installed secretly.
