NasDem Legislator: Cannabis For Herbal Medicine Has No Clinical Trials, Worried It's Abused

JAKARTA - The call for the legality of medical marijuana reaps the pros and cons, especially among members of the council. On the one hand, the council members agreed that medical marijuana would be used as a medical aid, on the other hand, they were worried that it would be misused.

To begin the study of medical marijuana, Commission III of the DPR and Commission IX of the DPR scheduled a hearing to hear input from the public and experts, particularly in the medical field.

Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives Irma Surya Chaniago assessed that the use of marijuana for the treatment of certain diseases is allowed as long as its use can be accounted for.

"Cannabis if it is really needed for medicine and the use can be accounted for, of course it is allowed," said Irma Chaniago, Wednesday, June 29.

However, the NasDem Legislator for the South Sumatra Electoral District did not agree if the specifications for medical marijuana were used for herbal medicine. Because according to him, there has been no comprehensive clinical trial so that he is worried about being misused.

"But the Union (Irma's nickname) does not agree if it is used for herbal medicines for which there are no clinical trials, fearing that they will be misused," said Irma.

Irma emphasized that the use of medical marijuana must be in the corridor of supervision and law. If later medical marijuana is legal and included in the Narcotics Law, Irma reminded that the articles that regulate do not have multiple interpretations.

"The use of marijuana for medical purposes must remain under supervision and content (if the narcotics law is revised). The reason is that it should not have multiple interpretations or interpretations so that there is no loophole for it to be misused," concluded Irma Chaniago.
