Russian Foreign Minister Will Attend G20 Ministerial Meeting In Bali

JAKARTA - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will attend a meeting of foreign ministers of G20 countries in Bali next week, an official from the Russian embassy in Indonesia said.

Spokesman for the Russian embassy in Jakarta, Denis Tetiushin, told Reuters that Lavrov would attend the foreign ministerial meeting, which will take place on July 7-8.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has not been able to confirm the truth of the news.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls "special operations", has overshadowed this year's G20 event.

Reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 28, several Western countries have threatened to boycott the G20 leaders' meeting if Russian President Vladimir Putin is present at the meeting.

Russia's participation at G20 events has been a source of tension.

Among the tensions that surfaced was when US, British and Canadian officials walked out of the G20 economic meeting in April.

Indonesia, as chairman of the G20, has been trying to unite the members of the G20 and has invited the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to attend the G20 summit in November.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to meet with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia during his visits to Kiev and Moscow this week with a mission to build peace.

During the visit, Jokowi also hopes to discuss efforts to open up wheat exports.

Jokowi will be in Poland on Tuesday and will depart by train for Kiev, according to a statement from the Indonesian presidential office.
