Putu, Who Bought 2 Cellphones But Didn't Pay For It And Even Went To The Onion Business, Was Released With Restorative Justice

JAKARTA - The District Attorney's Office (Kejari) of Madiun, East Java, has applied restorative justice to the suspect Putu Juniawan (53) in the embezzlement case in the local jurisdiction.

The Head of the General Criminal Section (Pidum) of the Madiun District Attorney's Office, Muhammad Andy Kurniawan, said that the suspect, Putu Juniawan, a resident of Kedungrejo Village, Tanjunganom District, Nganjuk Regency, had served a two-month detention period.

Putu Juniawan was declared acquitted after the termination of the prosecution based on restorative justice in the embezzlement case.

"The application of restorative justice (RJ) was carried out by submitting a letter of termination of prosecution (SKPP) to the suspect at RJ's house in Kelun Village, Kartoharjo District, Madiun City," said Muhammad Andy Kurniawan in Madiun, Tuesday, June 28, quoted from Antara.

There were a number of considerations that led to Putu Juniawan's release from detention. One of them, the victim forgave the suspect's actions.

The victim also asked that the case not proceed to trial with a peace agreement.

"This RJ was given because there are several considerations, namely that the suspect has committed a crime for the first time. Then there has been a statement signed by both parties that the suspect has paid the victim's witness loss of Rp. 3 million and the victim has forgiven the suspect's actions," he said.

It all started last March. Putu plans to buy two cellular phones at a mobile phone shop on Jalan Yos Sudarso, Madiun City for Rp. 3 million.

However, the suspect did not have the money. Then promised to pay for the two phones the next day.

Because it was not paid, the victim then contacted Putu. However, the suspect always evades. Finally, in early April, the suspect sold the cellphone which he had not paid for and the proceeds from the sale were used for shallot business capital.

Knowing that the perpetrator had not paid, the victim reported the incident to the police and the suspect has been in detention since April 12, 2022.

Meanwhile, Putu Juniawan regretted his actions and promised not to do it again. Meanwhile, Novel Amar as the owner of the HP shop and the victim admitted that he had forgiven the suspect's actions. The two also got a peace deal on June 14, 2022.

"I welcome this restorative justice, I hope that in the future cases like this will not be repeated and two HP units have been paid in full," said Putu Juniawan.
