LSI: Airlangga Is The Most Wanted Candidate For The Public To Improve The Economy

JAKARTA - Research from the Indonesian Survey Laboratory (LSI) noted that the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto was the figure chosen by the most respondents to become president in 2024. Airlangga was chosen by 28.2 percent of the 2,080 LSI respondents.

"The name Airlangga Hartarto was chosen by the most respondents with an electability rate of 28.2 percent, followed by Ganjar Pranowo with 10.8 percent, Prabowo Subianto 9.2 percent," said LSI Editor Albertus Dino in the release of his survey results, Saturday, June 25.

Albertus added that Airlangga's name was also a public official whose policies were considered the most accessible to the public.

As many as 48.3 percent of respondents agree that Airlangga's policies are the most effective and beneficial for family life compared to other presidential candidates currently sitting in government.

In second place, Ganjar Pranowo's name re-emerged as a public official whose policies had a positive effect on people's lives.

The results of the survey, which places Airlangga as the presidential candidate most wanted by the public, are in line with the findings regarding the criteria that respondents most wanted to lead the government after President Joko Widodo-Maruf Amin.

The results of the LSI survey found that 91.7 percent of respondents wanted a president who could improve the economy and improve people's welfare.

LSI editor Albertus Dino said that this respondent's greatest desire came because during the Covid-19 pandemic, they experienced a lot of decline in income, and lost their livelihood.

In addition to someone who is able to improve the economy, 82.7 percent of respondents also want a presidential figure for the next term to have a real track record of performance.

"As many as 82.7 percent (respondents) want a president who can and has a track record of real work and his work is felt by the public and is not someone who likes imaging but whose work is not real," said Albertus.

The survey, which was held from June 4 to 20, 2022, also places the Golkar Party as the party that is chosen by the most respondents. Golkar was chosen by 16.2 percent of the respondents, followed by the PDI-P with 14.7 percent and the Gerindra Party with 14.4 percent.

Other parties that received votes above the parliamentary threshold of 4 percent were the Democratic Party (6.1 percent), PKS (5.2 percent), PKB (4.8 percent), PAN (4.7 percent), PPP ( 4.3 percent), and Nasdem (4.1 percent).

The LSI survey used a multi-stage random sampling method with data collection through face-to-face interviews. The survey has a margin of error of around 2.15 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
