JAKARTA - Dr. Siti Nurbaya, M.Sc gets the title of Honorary Professor of Natural Resources Management at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya (UB).

The inauguration is held at the Open Session of the UB Academic Senate, Saturday, June 25 in Samantha Krida building, Malang, East Java. The Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) is the 30th professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and the 167th active professor at Brawijaya University.

In his scientific oration, Prof. Dr. Siti Nurbaya delivered a novelty about "Indonesia's Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030: Environmental and Forestry Governance Innovation".

Professor Dr. Siti Nurbaya explained that FOLU Net Sink 2030 is a condition to be achieved through reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the forestry sector and land use, with conditions where the absorption rate is equal to or higher than the emission level.

This scenario is built on the results of joint performance in making corrective actions in the forestry sector over the last seven years. This is supported by the results of in-depth observations of various forest sector issues that have been going on for dozens to decades.

"Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 is summarized in a detailed Operational Plan, and becomes the basis for the implementation of GHG emission reduction measures, which are then poured into systematic work guidelines or manuals in handling every forest and land use activity such as forest and land fires, deforestation and forest degradation. , habitat conservation, biodiversity, peat management and mangroves," explained Siti Nurbaya.

Siti Nurbaya said that Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 provides a very focused development target. Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 also encourages the performance of the forestry sector towards the same development target, namely achieving a GHG emission level of minus 140 million tons of CO2e by 2030.

"For the first time in the history of forestry sector development, all activity programs have the same indicators and units of measurement, namely CO2e. Previous performance targets used various units, such as hectares, cubic meters, tons and even rupiah," he said.

Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 uses a working modality with three main foundations, namely: Sustainable Forest Management, Environmental Governance, and Carbon Governance.

"Through Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program, it is hoped that it will not only be able to achieve the target in reducing GHG emissions, but at the same time it can be used as a momentum to accelerate the process of strengthening environmental and forestry governance in Indonesia," he said.

Even so, Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 faces challenges in the form of a wide spectrum of parties and a wide geographic area coverage. To support its successful implementation, it requires intensive coordination, which is supported by remote sensing technology and high resolution satellite imagery.

"Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 is a program that will be and has started to be implemented. Here, Indonesia can provide an example of honesty that commitment is not just a pledge, but is actually implemented, working on delivered commitments," he said.

Rector of Universitas Brawijaya Prof. Dr. Nuhfil Hanani AR, said Siti Nurbaya was the first to be appointed as an Honorary Professor as well as a Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture in the Field of Natural Resource Management. He stated that the criteria to become an Honorary Professor were extraordinary.

"Moreover, now that Brawijaya University is projected by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology will no longer be an Indonesian-class university, but will be promoted as a world-class university. So it is the job of a professor at Brawijaya University to make this happen," he said.

One of the efforts to improve the quality of education at Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Nuhfil Hanani also stated that his party continues to strive to increase the number of professors at 20% of all lecturers.

"I expect a lot from each faculty to improve their professors," he said.

Minister Siti's inauguration as an honorary professor was attended by various figures, including colleagues in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, namely Minister of ATR/Head of BPN Hadi Tjahjanto, Minister of PPPA I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati Puspayoga, and Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
