In Front Of Ministries/Institutions, KSP Moeldoko: If You Talk About State Sovereignty, It Will Definitely Ignite High Emotions

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko held a coordination meeting with ministries/agencies related to strengthening the security of Indonesian marine areas in Batam, Riau Islands. During the meeting, Moeldoko encouraged ministries/agencies to collaborate in protecting the marine areas of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

The coordination meeting was attended by representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Bakamla, the National Border Management Agency and Kogabwilhan I. The meeting was aimed at understanding the complex situation at the border, especially at the boundaries of Indonesia's outermost sea areas.

"When we talk about state sovereignty, this will definitely ignite high emotions. We have to manage this constellation," said Moeldoko, as reported by Antara.

"On the one hand, we have to manage the emotions of the Indonesian people, on the one hand we have to manage disturbances to Indonesian sovereignty," he continued.

Moeldoko ensured that KSP as an institution that oversees national strategic issues, will work to manage the issue of state boundaries and Indonesian sovereignty.

In particular, KSP is committed to encouraging the integration of maritime security in the Malacca Strait and North Natuna Sea within the framework of implementing PP 13/2022 concerning Security, Safety and Law Enforcement in Indonesian Waters and Indonesian Jurisdiction.

"So don't ever think that you are working alone. There are at least 18 ministries/agencies that work in managing national borders, this is not easy. So, KSP will continue to try to find bottlenecks from this difficult situation," said Moeldoko.

Currently, the security scheme in the territorial waters is still not optimal because the planning for securing the territorial waters is carried out partially, is sectoral in nature and is limited to the main tasks and functions of each K/L. In addition, the implementation of joint operations and patrols that are collaborated are still issue-based sectoral, and temporary with different time limits.

Meanwhile, strengthening maritime security in the Natuna waters is one of 41 main development projects with a APBN allocation of IDR 12.2 trillion.

President Joko Widodo also gave serious attention to the issue of securing border waters, by prioritizing the welfare of the people in border areas, outermost areas and frontier islands.
