JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) straightens out that the appointment of Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Chief Executive of the Indonesia ASEAN Para Games Organizing Committee (INASPOC) has nothing to do with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The chairman of the Indonesian NPC, Senny Marbun, explained that President Jokowi's first son was elected as the Chief Executive of INASPOC. Prior to his appointment, Gibran was first invited to attend the Indonesian NPC Office to be asked for his willingness to become the Executive Chair of the 2022 Solo ASEAN Para Games.

"The election of Gibran is the result of the appointment of the Chairman of the Indonesian NPC, which was previously approved and approved by the Minister of Youth and Sports. Only then after going through various processes and harmonization between related Ministries, the Presidential Regulation was signed by the President," said Senny in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday. , June 24.

In Presidential Regulation No. 95 of 2022, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali as Chair of the Organizer and person in charge of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games (APG) has been appointed, while Gibran is the Chief Executive of INASPOC because it is indeed being held in Solo, Central Java.

One of the forms of responsibility of the Minister of Youth and Sports is manifested through a letter of support from the Minister of Youth and Sports to the NPC to run for the host of APG Solo according to the guidelines issued by the ASEAN Para Sport Federation (APSF).

"The reason for the appointment of Gibran is because he is young and qualified so he deserves to be shown as the Chief Executive of INASPOC. So instead of showing parents who talk a lot, who talk too much but can't work, they will cause trouble," he added.

"We'd better highlight young people who can work, have quality, are brave and are responsible for what they do. We have seen Gibran's performance and what he has done in Surakarta," said Senny Marbun.

The chairman of the Indonesian NPC also hopes that the appointment of Gibran as the Chief Executive of INASPOC will not be further politicized. According to him, Indonesia currently must focus on preparations for the 2022 APG which will soon be rolling on July 30 to August 6.
