SEMARANG - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) stated that the Semarang City Government (Pemkot) was the best in enforcing regional regulations (perda), peace, public order, and community protection, thus earning the "Karya Bhakti Satpol PP" award.

The Director of the Civil Service Police and the Linmas of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bernhard E. Rondonuwu, appreciated the efforts of the Semarang City Government in carrying out enforcement which required joint support and collaboration in its implementation.

"Semarang can be an example for other cities," he said, as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 24.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Semarang, Hendrar Prihadi, said that the Satpol PP in implementing local regulations almost did not create turmoil in the community.

The key in enforcing local regulations, he continued, is humanism. "If it is necessary to find a solution. If a solution has been offered, but still does not want to, Satpol PP will act decisively," he said.

The Mayor of Semarang, who is familiarly called Hendi, said that sometimes problems arise that conflict with conscience and desire in creating a neat city.

Therefore, according to him, the Satpol PP must be led by someone who is truly capable of overcoming the problem.

"If it has to be enforced, the execution must be humane," he said.
