SEMARANG - The Central Java Provincial Government has received an additional 75,500 doses of vaccine to anticipate foot and mouth disease (PMK) in livestock in a number of areas.

"We are targeted by the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, no later than July 2, 2022 the first phase of PMK anticipation vaccination must be completed. Yesterday we received 1,500 doses of vaccine, now we get an additional 75,500 doses of vaccine," said Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Office of Central Java Province Agus Wariyanto in Semarang, Antara, Thursday, June 23.

He explained that the allocation of the PMK anticipation vaccine received by the Central Java Provincial Government was part of the first phase of the emergency vaccine program and the second phase of the vaccine would then come back.

The allocation of vaccines received, he continued, was prioritized for vulnerable livestock that were still healthy, such as dairy cattle, beef cattle in breeding facilities, and productive females.

He said all regencies/cities in Central Java were ready to receive vaccine allocations, but the Central Java Provincial Government would continue to monitor difficulties that might occur in the field.

"Our vaccines are ready, what must be really prepared is to sort and select cattle that are really healthy. Meanwhile, if they are sick, they are treated so that the healthy ones have immunity after being vaccinated," he said.

Previously, the Central Java Provincial Government had received 1,500 doses of PMK vaccine from the Ministry of Agriculture to anticipate the spread of the FMD outbreak.

The regions that have received the vaccine allocation are Boyolali Regency with 400 doses, Semarang Regency with 300 doses, Klaten Regency with 200 doses, Sukoharjo Regency with 200 doses, Salatiga City with 100 doses, Magelang Regency with 100 doses, Semarang City with 100 doses, and Wonosobo Regency with 100 doses.

The Central Java Health Service Office noted that up to now there are around 26 thousand livestock suspected of PMK and of that number only 0.5 percent have died, while 21 percent have been declared cured.
