JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that there are two companies besides PT Karya Citra Nusantara (KCN) that are threatened with revocation of activity permits due to coal dust pollution in Marunda Flats, North Jakarta.

Asep said that PT HSD and PT PBI, the two companies that carried out air pollution, had previously been given administrative sanctions in the form of coercion to improve the environmental impact of loading and unloading activities.

However, currently the administrative sanctions have not passed the end of the stipulated deadline. Thus, these two companies have not been sanctioned with license revocation like PT KCN.

"There are two more (companies) besides KCN. Those are in the Marunda area. The two companies are still under sanctions. So, they haven't been upgraded like KCN," Asep told reporters, Thursday, June 22.

Until now, Asep said that his party is still giving PT HSD and PT PBI the opportunity to carry out administrative sanctions so that they do not get sanctions for revocation of permits.

"So, we are still looking at their progress. But we hope that with the imposition of sanctions on KCN, other companies in the Marunda Archipelago Bonded Zone can also improve the quality of management, especially related to the environment," he said.

For information, the North Jakarta Environmental Agency has imposed administrative sanctions on PT HSD and PT PBI as of March 31. This follows the sanctions that were previously imposed on PT KCN 14 days earlier.

Based on the results of the DKI Provincial Government's inspection, the company's bulk loading and unloading activities at the Marunda Port were proven to have violated the laws and regulations in the environmental field and did not carry out the obligations in the environmental documents.

The imposition of this sanction is due to the residents of Marunda Flats feeling the impact of pollution since four years ago. This air pollution is caused by port managers who have loading and unloading activities for solid and wet bulk commodities, including coal.

The coal dust pollution causes serious illnesses to its citizens. Now, there are three residents who suffer from corneal ulcer disease which is strongly suspected due to the coal dust pollution in Marunda. Residents' settlements are often polluted by dust that flies to the surface.
